Worcester GOLD and Ocean Pines Rec Team Up for Back-to-School Drive! 🎒

The community is coming together to support local children in need. Worcester GOLD, a non-profit helping low-income families, is partnering with Ocean Pines Rec to collect essential school supplies.

Needed items include backpacks, notebooks, pencils, scissors, folders, and more. Donations can be dropped off at the Ocean Pines Police Dept during National Night Out on Aug 6, or at the community center. 🖊️📓

Over the past 25 years, Worcester GOLD's School Supplies program has assisted hundreds of students from disadvantaged homes. This year-round effort ensures kids have the tools to succeed in the classroom.

OC Tidal Trivia

🏨 🌊 Step back in time to the 1890s, when the iconic Colonial Hotel first graced the Ocean City Boardwalk. 👀 This charming two-cottage retreat, built by the visionary William Warrington, quickly became a beloved seaside escape.

In 1897, Warrington transformed the cottages into a bustling 100-guest hotel, complete with an oceanfront dining room and a wide, inviting porch. 🍽️🌁 Though lacking modern luxuries like private baths, elevators, and air conditioning, the Colonial offered guests a quintessential coastal experience.

For decades, the Colonial Hotel welcomed weary travelers and locals alike, including the legendary Joe Kroart's Ocean Gallery and John Pager's Blue Dog East coffee house. 🎨☕ Sadly, the hotel's golden era came to an end in the winter of 1972-73, when it fell victim to the notorious "fire bug arsonist" and burned down on December 14th.

But the Colonial's legacy lives on. In 1975, the site welcomed Ocean City's first Boardwalk timeshare, Boardwalk One, ushering in a new era of seaside accommodations. Though the Colonial may be gone, its charming spirit and the memories it created will forever be etched in the hearts of all who experienced its timeless coastal magic. 💫
