🌊 Surf's up! Ocean City Surf Club's annual weekend was a hit! 🏄‍♀️🏄‍♂️ Friday night kicked off with a fun party at Barn 34 🍻, hosted by the awesome Lawson fam. Big shoutout to Tommy, Brad, and Skill for keeping the stoke high!🤙

🌊 Their friend Shelly Dawson was remembered and honored with a special paddle out 💙 He helped kickstart the club and legends program, but sadly passed away this winter. Also celebrated was McKenzie Keiser’s eco-friendly book (illustrated by kids and supported by none other than professional surfer Kelly Slater!).

Lots of awards were given out! 🏆 Coast Guard, local businesses, and beach heroes were recognized. Congrats to scholarship winners Dane Olson and Finn Ramnarain! 🎓💰

Saturday's "Anything Goes" contest was exciting! 🏄‍♂️🏄‍♀️ Six teams competed using various wave-riding equipment. Fenwick Boys won, with Thing 2 in second, and a tie for third! 🥇🥈🥉

Big thanks to all volunteers and sponsors who made the weekend great! 🙌 Special shoutout to Castle in the Sand Hotel and Ocean City Beach Patrol for the rescue demo! 🏰🦸‍♂️

OC Tidal Trivia

On June 6, 1964, Ocean City's Boardwalk got a quirky new ride - the OG Boardwalk Train! 🚃 This head-turner had five cars and a mini locomotive engine. For just 25 cents, you could hop on for a bumpy ride that'd make your hot dog do flips! 🌭

Fast forward to June 23, 1966 - our little train decided to go rogue! 😱 In front of the swanky George Washington Hotel, it flipped over, giving 28 passengers an unexpected thrill. 22 folks got some gnarly souvenirs (aka injuries), with two VIPs scoring a trip to the hospital. Ouch! 🏥

Word on the street…some wild child in the last car thought playing "Rock the Train" was a genius idea. Spoiler: it wasn't! 🤦‍♂️ Mayor Hugh Cropper tried to keep it cool, reminding everyone this was the first hiccup in two years of operation.

Next time you're cruising the Boardwalk, give a little nod to this piece of OC history. And maybe whisper a "thank you" that today's trams are a bit more stable! 😅
